About the Vintage Mosaic Collection
Geometric designs are evident in this contemporary collection which incorporates vintage necklace chains and jewelry pieces found in my searches through estate sales & flea markets around the globe.
From the center to the outer edge, the negative element of space plays an important role, bringing to each piece light, air and whimsy. These designs continue to remind us of the past, when vintage elements are included, and of the contemporary, with geometric shapes figuring smartly into each piece.
Often, a vintage piece will call for certain sea glass or sculpted stained glass elements. Swarovski crystals & Grade A pearls are perfect compliments to my mosaic designs.

I credit Rob Bartola, President of the Essex Art Association & the Riverside Press Art Gallery with encouraging me to take a more geometric & simplified direction with my Mosaic designs. I had dropped in to show him the very ecletic art jewelry collection going into the upcoming Alva Gallery retail show and this meeting lead to a collection that has proven to be largely collected.
Funny how the creative & curator process cycles in, out, & about. The original pieces I showed Rob were quite large, each pendant measuring 1 1/2 inches in diameter, with vintage pieces woven in the seaglass & wire designs. Now, Rob is showing both the Contemporary & Vintage Collections. November 2006.
About the Museum Mosaic Collection
This is my big bang amongst the Mosaic collections. Combine elegance, uniqueness & making the ultimate statement, then multiply by a thousand!Geometric designs continue to be evident in this contemporary collection which incorporates vintage jewelry pieces found in my searches through estate sales & flea markets around the globe.
The Process
My technique involves cold connecting. Here, glue or soldering is replaced by hand weaving and forging wire wrapped into an intricate design. Durability, quality and comfort are as much a part of my final compositions as their aesthetic beauty. Finally,an equally intricate 16 - 18 inch hand woven necklace is hand woven specifically to complement some of the pendant designs.
Here, Kariann's geometric designs are enhanced with the colors of recycled stained glass pieces. A sculptor at heart, Kariann brings the life of cathedral windows to her art jewelry. She hand cuts & bevels each piece. Some are combined with vintage necklace chains and jewelry pieces found in her searches through estate sales & flea markets around the globe.
